Introducing our First Ever BOD Newsletter: July 2017
Happy July 4th from The BOD Squad!
The BOD Happenings
The Mayor Officially Welcomes The BOD to Beverley Hills
On Monday, we had the pleasure of participating in the weekly “Mayor’s Walk,” hosted by the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce. Lili Bosse (pronounced bossy!) has been the mayor of Beverly Hills since 2014, and she’s been the driving force behind the Walk, which has flourished under her term. Over 100 members of the Chamber (dressed in bright orange!) marched from City Hall to The BOD, filled with enthusiasm. Kym gave a quick speech on the sidewalk on Civic Center Drive, and explained a little history of the studio. She was even handed a megaphone so everyone could hear! After, Kym cut the ceremonial ribbon to announce the official opening of The BOD and its newfound membership with the Chamber of Commerce. Inside, the guests enjoyed some treats, a tour of the studio, and a quick demo of Kym’s class with the help of Joseph Corella. The energy was incredible. With the contagious enthusiasm of Lili, Kym and Joseph, a hundred orange clad-dancers moved and laughed on our dance floor—all before 9am! We were overwhelmed by the excitement over our studio, and we are looking forward to welcoming the members of the Chamber back to try some classes at BOD.
Introducing a NEW Class for Seniors!
Our first ever Forever Young BOD class will be on July 6th at 10am. Kym is delighted to build a class specifically for our mature clientele. And Christina Bodie, with a degree from Juillard and two certifications from Yoga Works, is the perfect instructor. We’ve received much positive feedback from the senior community about starting this class, and it serves to strengthen the mission of The BOD: to create a community where every BOD, young or old, can feel great, sweat, and have fun. Forever Young BOD will include gentle cardio dance to keep seniors active and functional fitness techniques to alleviate joint pain, increase flexibility and build strength. Forever Young BOD will be offered at a special discounted rate of $15 a class, available online or in the studio.
Celebrating the 4th with Food!
Kym and Robert love the idea of having a traditional American Barbeque, but this weekend, Kym is opting for some lighter fare. Her favorite is turkey burgers and sweet potato fries, as the turkey is a leaner substitute for beef, and sweet potatoes contain more nutrients and vitamins than regular potatoes. Here’s Kym’s recipe, which can also be found in her book, The 5678 Diet, available both in studio and online.
Kym’s Turkey Burgers and Sweet Potato Fries
Ingredients for Burger

The BOD Instructor Feature: Dana Holm!
Taking a new fitness class can be empowering, but also a little intimidating. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment at The BOD because #EveryBodIsBeautiful and deserving of an awesome fitness experience! Over the next few weeks, we will be introducing you to the instructors at The BOD through Q&A sessions and behind the scenes videos. We love our BOD Squad and want to give you an exclusive look at these amazing individuals!
First up we have Dana Holm! Dana is a former Rockette and Co-Creator of Dance Fit BOD!
Q: What sparked your transition from full-time dancing and performing into fitness?
A: Transitioning into fitness was natural for me. I wanted my hobby to be my career. It seemed only fitting for me to become a fitness instructor since I was in the gym daily anyway.
Q: How do you want students to feel during and after your class?
A: I want my students to feel emotionally and physically strong during Dance Fit BOD. Group fitness classes can be so motivating, and I hope that my students will leave my class feeling really, really great about themselves and their bodies.
Q: What’s your favorite part of teaching your class?
A: My favorite part of teaching Dance Fit BOD is seeing my students sweaty and smiling. Knowing that they’re getting a good workout and enjoying themselves is worth everything!
Q: Describe one thing you do to practice health & wellness outside the studio.
A: I like to meditate. Setting aside even 5 mins out of my day to clear my mind and reset is really important to me. I feel really flustered if I don’t take the time to refocus my energy.
Q: What piece of advice would you share to someone just starting their fitness journey?
A: Be kind to yourself! Working hard is key to getting results, but recovery is very important on your fitness journey. The body needs R&R to get strong! The more positive you are about your health, the faster you’ll see results.
The BOD Client of the Month: Kit Steinkellner!
The BOD Squad is thrilled to announce Kit Steinkellner as the very first BOD Client of the Month for July! When not working as a TV writer, Kit can be seen in class almost every night dancing and getting her full body work out on in “the most magical of dance parties!” She goes on to say, “The teachers at The BOD are so inspiring and encouraging and create such a gorgeous and supportive community where all bodies feel welcome.” Thank you Kit for your incredible dedication and for being an inspiration in and out of class. We hope The BOD continues to help you grow and reach your fitness goals! Love and congrats!
