The Health Benefits of Kombucha
Over the past couple of years, kombucha has become a very popular drink of choice. And why wouldn’t it? It has the right amount of sweetness, it’s healthy, but more importantly, it’s delicious!
Ever since we started offering kombucha at our studio, we’ve gotten a lot of questions about it. What is kombucha? What does it taste like? Is it really that good for you? Well we’ve got those answers for you!
What Is It?
Kombucha is a fermented tea beverage (made with sweetened green tea or black tea) that’s been around for centuries. Think of it as a carbonated tea that contains all types of B-vitamins, enzymes, and probiotics that are very good for you.
Depending on the flavor you prefer, kombucha can have a tart, tangy, or sweet taste. If you make it at home, you can add your favorite juices during a secondary fermentation process to adjust the taste to your liking.
Thanks to being packed with probiotics and other nutritious additives, kombucha is a great alternative to other sugary drinks like soda and juice. In fact, an 8oz glass of kombucha only has 30 calories!
In addition to having low calories and sugar, kombucha has a wide array of additional health benefits, such as:
- Increasing energy
- Aiding in liver detoxification
- Aiding in weight loss
- Improving mood (reducing anxiety and depression)
- Improving digestion
As we mentioned, kombucha is a great alternative to a lot of sugary, high-calorie drinks we tend to have in the summer or after a workout. If you’re the type of person who gets bored of water, give kombucha a try!
Personally, we love having a glass right after a dance/fitness class to hydrate ourselves –perfectly refreshing after a good, 45-minute long workout session!
